What J&N does, and how each job actually runs

Six services, all of them driveway, lane and lot work. No guesswork about what is included — here is the sequence we follow on each one.

Service 05

Grading & base prep

The part nobody photographs and everything depends on.

We bring our own machine in, cut the high spots, pull the material back into shape and compact it. On a gravel drive that means the ruts and the pothole pockets come out before anything is laid over the top. On a lot or a new entrance it means a shaped, compacted base that water runs off instead of sitting on.

It is also a service on its own. If all you need is a lane pulled back into shape, that is a job we will come out and do.

Service 04

Patching

Failed spots cut out and filled so the rest of the surface has something to hold on to.

Patching shows up twice in what we do. Sometimes it is the whole job — a pothole at the end of the drive, a blown-out edge where the mailbox turn is, a soft patch that keeps sinking. Sometimes it is step one of a bigger job.

Before a tar and chip surface goes down we pre-patch, because two layers of tar and chip will follow the shape of whatever is underneath them. Before sealer goes down we patch, because sealer is a coating, not a repair. Either way the patch comes first and the finish comes second.

Service 06

Millings & resurfacing

Recycled asphalt, hauled in with our own trailer.

Millings are asphalt that has already been ground off a road surface. Spread and compacted, they give you a hard, dark, hard-wearing driving surface without the cost of new material — which is why they turn up so often on farm entrances, long lanes and work yards.

Resurfacing is the same idea applied to a drive you already have: a new wearing surface over the old one rather than tearing the whole thing out.

Ask about millings

Not sure which one you need?

Start with what the surface is doing.

It is gravel, and you keep adding rock

That is a tar and chip conversation. Grade it, pre-patch it, two layers of tar and chip, and you stop hauling rock.

It is asphalt, it is grey, and it is starting to crack

That is crack filling and sealcoating. The cracks get filled first, then the sealer goes over the top.

It is asphalt and there are holes in it

Patching, and then a decision about whether the rest of the surface is worth sealing or whether it wants resurfacing.

It holds water, or it has ruts you can feel from the truck

That is a grading problem, and no surface treatment will fix it until the shape is right.

If none of that sounds like yours, send a couple of photos and we will tell you straight what it needs.
