Every photo here is a job our crew did

No stock photography and no renderings. Four jobs, three of them with the before shot taken from the same spot as the after.

A rutted, washed-out gravel lane running through woodland before work started. Before
The same lane finished in two layers of tar and chip, dark and even through the trees.
After
Drag the handle. Same lane, same stretch of woodland, before and after.

Half-mile private lane

  • Germantown Hills, IL
  • Tar & chip
  • Grading
  • Pre-patching

The customer had a half-mile lane and had reached the end of his patience with it — sick of dumping more rock on it and trying to work the potholes out by hand.

We graded the whole run, pre-patched the failed sections, and put two layers of tar and chip over it using the slag. Half a mile of woodland lane that now drives like a road.

How tar and chip goes in

Before and after

Where the drive meets the road.

The apron takes the worst of it — every vehicle turns there and the edge has nothing holding it. Drag the handle, or tab to it and use the arrow keys.

A worn driveway with a loose gravel apron spilling towards the road. Before
The same apron finished dark and even, taped off while the surface sets.
After
Driveway apron. Reshaped and finished along with the rest of the surface. The tape keeps traffic off it while it sets. A third comparison — a full residential sealcoat — is on the sealcoating page.

  • Tar & chip
  • Grading

Gravel that kept washing out in the rain. Graded, sprayed for weeds, then two layers of tar and chip using the darker 3/16 slag.

A business lot cut to shape and compacted. Getting the fall right on a lot this flat is most of the work — water has to have somewhere to go.

Base prep beside a garage

  • Grading
  • Base prep

Old surface stripped back, the base cut to shape and run over with a plate compactor. This is the stage that decides how the finished drive behaves.

Our own equipment

We haul our own material.

Loader, dump trailer, grading machine, plate compactor, chip and seal gear.

It matters more than it sounds. Owning the equipment means the schedule is ours, the prep does not get rushed to fit somebody else’s rental window, and the material arrives when we say it will.
